John Donne

John Donne (1572-1631) was an English poet, preacher, and metaphysical poet. He is considered one of the most influential and important poets of the English language. Donne was born in London and educated at both Oxford and Cambridge. He was ordained as a priest in 1615 and served as a chaplain to King James I. Donne's poetry is known for its wit, intellectualism, and complex use of metaphysical conceits. His works include "The Flea," "The Good Morrow," "A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning," and "Death Be Not Proud." Donne's sermons are also highly regarded and have been published in several collections. He is buried in St. Paul's Cathedral in London.
