John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) was the 35th President of the United States, serving from 1961 until his assassination in 1963. He was a decorated World War II veteran, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, and a leader of the Democratic Party. Kennedy was born into a wealthy and politically influential family in Massachusetts. He attended Harvard University and graduated in 1940. After serving in the Navy during World War II, Kennedy entered politics and was elected to the House of Representatives in 1946. He was elected to the Senate in 1952 and was the Democratic nominee for president in 1960. Kennedy was the youngest man ever elected to the presidency and the first Catholic. He was known for his charisma and his commitment to civil rights and social justice. He was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963.
