The Forsyte Saga, Part 5: To Let

The fifth and final installment of John Galsworthy’s The Forsyte Saga, To Let, follows the Forsyte family as they face the consequences of their actions and the changing times. The novel begins with Soames Forsyte, the family patriarch, in a state of despair. His daughter Fleur has married a man he disapproves of, and his wife Irene has left him. Soames is determined to win back Irene, but his efforts are in vain. Meanwhile, Fleur and her husband Jon are struggling to make a life for themselves. They move to a small cottage in the countryside, but their happiness is short-lived. Fleur is pregnant, and Jon is struggling to make ends meet. Meanwhile, Soames’s son, Jolyon, is dealing with his own problems. His wife June has left him, and he is struggling to raise his son, Jon, alone. Jolyon is also dealing with the death of his father, James, and the fact that his son is in love with Fleur. The novel follows the Forsyte family as they come to terms with their past and try to move forward. In the end, the family is reunited, and the Forsyte Saga comes to a close.
