John H. Worst (1860-1937) was an American educator and author. He was born in Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1883. He then went on to teach at the University of Wisconsin and later at the University of Minnesota. Worst was a strong advocate for liberal education and wrote several books on the subject, including A Broader Mission for Liberal Education (1901). He was also a proponent of the "Wisconsin Idea," which sought to extend the influence of the University of Wisconsin beyond the campus and into the state. Worst was a member of the National Education Association and served as its president from 1910 to 1911. He was also a member of the American Association of University Professors and the American Historical Association. He was awarded an honorary degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1921.
