John Haslam (1764–1844) was an English physician and author. He was born in London and studied medicine at St. Thomas's Hospital. He was appointed physician to Bethlem Hospital in 1809, and was a pioneer in the field of mental health. He wrote several books on the subject, including Observations on Madness and Melancholy (1809) and Illustrations of Madness (1810). He also wrote A Letter to the Right Honorable the Lord Chancellor (1823), which was a plea for reform of the treatment of the mentally ill. He was a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a member of the Royal Society. He died in 1844.
