John Oxenford (1812–1877) was an English dramatist, novelist, and translator. He was born in London and educated at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge. Oxenford wrote over fifty plays, many of which were adaptations of foreign works. He also wrote several novels, including The Adventures of a Beauty (1845) and The Adventures of a Bachelor (1846). He also translated several works from French and German, including Goethe's Faust (1850). Oxenford was a prolific writer and his works were popular in their day. He was a member of the Garrick Club and was well-known in literary circles. He died in London in 1877.
