José Ingenieros (1877–1925) was an Argentine physician, philosopher, and sociologist. He was born in Buenos Aires and studied medicine at the University of Buenos Aires. He was a professor of physiology and hygiene at the University of La Plata and later at the University of Buenos Aires. He was a prolific writer, publishing numerous books and articles on philosophy, sociology, and psychology. He was a major influence on the development of Argentine sociology and is considered one of the founders of the Argentine school of sociology. He was also a major influence on the development of the Argentine labor movement. He was a strong advocate of socialism and was a member of the Socialist Party of Argentina. He died in 1925 in Buenos Aires.
