José Sixto Álvarez (Fray Mocho) was a Dominican writer, poet, and journalist. He was born in Santo Domingo in 1891 and died in the same city in 1965. He was a member of the Dominican Academy of Language and the Dominican Academy of History. He was a prolific writer, having published more than 30 books, including poetry, novels, short stories, and essays. He was also a journalist, having worked for several newspapers and magazines in the Dominican Republic.
