Josephine Tey (1896-1952) was a Scottish author best known for her mystery novels. She wrote under the pseudonym Gordon Daviot, and her most famous works include The Daughter of Time, The Franchise Affair, and Miss Pym Disposes. Tey was born Elizabeth MacKintosh in Inverness, Scotland, and she studied at the University of Edinburgh. She worked as a teacher and a journalist before turning to writing full-time. Her works often featured strong female characters and explored themes of justice and morality. Tey was also a playwright, and her play Richard of Bordeaux was a major success in the 1930s. She died in 1952 at the age of 56.
