Judith Merril was a Canadian science fiction writer and editor born on January 21, 1923, in Toronto, Ontario. She began writing at an early age and published her first story in 1940. During World War II, she worked as a journalist and later became a prominent figure in the science fiction community, serving as the editor of Galaxy Science Fiction from 1956 to 1961.
