Katherine Maclean

Katherine Maclean is an American science fiction author and editor. She is best known for her short stories, which have been published in numerous anthologies and magazines. She has also written several novels, including The Missing Man, The Clocks of Iraz, and The Diploids. Maclean was born in New York City in 1925. She attended the University of Chicago, where she earned a degree in philosophy. After college, she worked as a research assistant at the University of Chicago and then as a librarian at the University of California, Berkeley. Maclean began writing science fiction in the 1950s, and her first story, "The Missing Man," was published in 1953. She has since published over fifty stories, many of which have been reprinted in anthologies and collections. Her stories often explore themes of identity, alienation, and the human condition. Maclean has also edited several anthologies, including The Best of Katherine Maclean and The Best of Science Fiction. She has won numerous awards, including the Hugo Award for Best Short Story in 1965 and the Nebula Award for Best Novelette in 1967. Maclean currently lives in Berkeley, California.
