Laurence M. Janifer (1933-2013) was an American science fiction author and editor. He wrote more than 30 novels and short stories, and edited several anthologies. He was a member of the Science Fiction Writers of America and the Science Fiction Research Association. Janifer was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and attended the University of Maryland. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. After his military service, he worked as a technical writer and editor for the National Security Agency. He later worked as a freelance writer and editor. Janifer's works include the novels The Mind Monsters, The Alien Way, and The Star-Crowned Kings. He also wrote the short story collections The Best of Laurence M. Janifer and The Star-Crowned Kings and Other Stories.
