Luis Vicente López (1818-1880) was an Argentine writer, journalist, and politician. He was born in Buenos Aires and studied law at the University of Buenos Aires. He was a prominent figure in the Argentine Unitarian Party and was a member of the Argentine Congress from 1854 to 1856. He was also a member of the Argentine Supreme Court from 1856 to 1858. López was a prolific writer and journalist, and his works include the novel El Matadero (1871), which is considered one of the first works of Naturalism in Latin America. He also wrote several plays, essays, and short stories. He was a major influence on the development of Argentine literature and is considered one of the most important figures in Argentine literature.
