Mahatma Gandhi, born Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, India, was a prominent leader in the Indian independence movement against British rule. He is best known for his philosophy of nonviolent resistance, or Satyagraha. Gandhi studied law in London and practiced in South Africa, where he developed his political views and leadership skills. He authored several works, including his autobiography, "The Story of My Experiments with Truth." Gandhi's writings and teachings have had a lasting impact on global civil rights movements. He was assassinated on January 30, 1948.
