Margaret Mitchell (1900-1949) was an American author and journalist. She is best known for her novel Gone With the Wind, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1937. Mitchell wrote the novel while working as a reporter for the Atlanta Journal. The novel was adapted into a film in 1939, which won eight Academy Awards. Mitchell was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and attended Smith College in Massachusetts. She returned to Atlanta after college and worked as a reporter for the Atlanta Journal. She wrote Gone With the Wind in 1936 and it was published the following year. Mitchell died in 1949 after being struck by a car.
