Marjorie Bowen (1885-1952) was a British novelist and short story writer. She wrote under several pseudonyms, including George R. Preedy, Joseph Shearing, and Margaret Campbell. Bowen was born in London and educated at home. She began writing at an early age and published her first novel, The Viper of Milan, in 1906. Bowen wrote in a variety of genres, including historical fiction, horror, and romance. She was particularly known for her historical novels, which often featured strong female protagonists. Her works include The Viper of Milan (1906), The Shadow of the Sword (1912), The Sword of Islam (1914), and The Shadow of the Rose (1917). She also wrote several collections of short stories, including The Demon Lover (1919) and The House of the Vampire (1921). Bowen was a prolific writer, and her works were popular in both Britain and the United States. She was awarded the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for her novel The Viper of Milan in 1906. She was also a member of the Detection Club, a group of British mystery writers.
