Mary Mills Lyall (1845-1917) was an American author and educator. She was born in New York City and attended the Normal College of the City of New York. She taught in the public schools of New York City and later became a professor of English literature at Wellesley College. Lyall wrote several books, including The Life of Mary Lyon (1890), a biography of the founder of Mount Holyoke College, and The Life of Harriet Beecher Stowe (1893). She also wrote several novels, including The Story of a Summer (1886) and The Story of a Winter (1887). Lyall was a member of the National American Woman Suffrage Association and was active in the women's rights movement. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women and the National Council of Women.
