Maude M. Grant (1868-1951) was an American author and educator. She was born in New York City and attended the University of Michigan, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1890. She then taught in the public schools of Michigan and New York. In addition to Windmills and Wooden Shoes, Grant wrote several other books, including The Story of the Dutch in America (1917), The Story of the Swedes in America (1918), and The Story of the Norwegians in America (1920). She also wrote several articles for magazines and newspapers. Grant was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women and the National Education Association.
