National American Woman Suffrage Association

The National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) was founded in 1890 by Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and other leading suffragists. NAWSA was the largest and most influential organization in the United States dedicated to securing women's right to vote. The organization worked to pass state-level suffrage laws, organize grassroots campaigns, and lobby Congress for a federal amendment. NAWSA was instrumental in the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which granted women the right to vote. After the passage of the 19th Amendment, NAWSA was reorganized as the League of Women Voters.
