Nettie Garmer Barker (1876-1962) was an American author and educator. She was born in Indiana and attended the University of Chicago, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1898. She then went on to teach in the public schools of Indiana and Illinois. Barker wrote several books for children, including The Little Brown Hen (1909), The Little Red Hen (1910), and The Little White Hen (1911). She also wrote a number of books for adults, including The Story of the Bible (1912) and The Story of the Old Testament (1913). Barker was a member of the National Education Association and the National Council of Women. She was also active in the Women's Christian Temperance Union and the YWCA. She was a strong advocate for women's rights and education. Barker died in 1962 at the age of 86.
