The novel follows the adventures of John Carter, a former Confederate soldier who is transported to the planet Mars. On Mars, he finds himself in the middle of a civil war between two Martian races, the red-skinned Tharks and the green-skinned Warhoons. Carter joins forces with the Tharks and helps them fight against the Warhoons. Along the way, Carter meets and falls in love with the beautiful Dejah Thoris, a princess of the red-skinned Tharks. He also encounters a variety of strange creatures, including the fearsome White Apes and the mysterious Therns. The novel is filled with thrilling action and adventure, as Carter and his allies battle against the Warhoons and their allies. In the end, Carter and his allies are triumphant, and Carter and Dejah Thoris are married.
