Pearl S. Buck (1892–1973) was an American writer and novelist, best known for her novel "The Good Earth," which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1932. She was born in Hillsboro, West Virginia, and spent much of her early life in China, where her parents were missionaries. Buck's experiences in China greatly influenced her writing. In 1938, she became the first American woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Her works often explore themes of cultural exchange and the lives of Chinese peasants.
