Pedro Carolino (1788–1866)

Pedro Carolino was a 19th-century Portuguese writer, best known for his unintentionally humorous book "English as She is Spoke," published in 1855. The book was intended as an English phrasebook for Portuguese speakers but became famous for its numerous translation errors and nonsensical phrases. Carolino reportedly had little to no knowledge of English and relied heavily on a French-English dictionary, leading to the book's comedic reputation.
