Peter was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. He was a fisherman by trade and was called by Jesus to become a fisher of men. He was a leader among the apostles and was the first to recognize Jesus as the Messiah. He was also the first to preach the gospel to the Gentiles. After Jesus' death, Peter became the leader of the early church and was instrumental in spreading the gospel throughout the Roman Empire. He is traditionally credited with writing two books of the New Testament, the Gospel of Mark and the First Epistle of Peter. He is also believed to have written the Second Epistle of Peter. He is believed to have died in Rome around 64 AD.
