Philip James Bailey (1816–1902) was an English poet best known for his epic poem "Festus," first published in 1839. Born in Nottingham, he studied law but turned to poetry, gaining fame with "Festus," which explores themes of life, death, and the divine. Bailey continued to revise and expand the poem throughout his life. He published other works, but none achieved the same success. Bailey's style is characterized by its ambitious scope and philosophical depth.
