Pierre Courtois (1777-1853) was a French playwright and novelist. He was born in Paris and studied law at the University of Paris. He began writing plays in 1802, and his first play, The Silent Couple, was produced in 1806. He wrote several other plays, including The Two Brothers (1809), The Two Sisters (1810), and The Two Cousins (1812). He also wrote several novels, including The Count of Monte Cristo (1845) and The Three Musketeers (1850). He was a member of the French Academy of Arts and Sciences and was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1845. He died in Paris in 1853.
