Publius Ovidius Naso (43 BC – 17/18 AD), commonly known as Ovid, was a Roman poet who is best known for his works Metamorphoses and Ars Amatoria. He was born in Sulmo, in the Roman province of Hispania, and was educated in Rome. Ovid wrote a number of other works, including the Fasti, Heroides, and Amores. His works have been translated into many languages and are still read and studied today. Ovid is considered one of the most influential poets of the Roman Empire, and his works have had a lasting impact on Western literature.
