Ramón del Valle-Inclán (1866-1936) was a Spanish dramatist, novelist, and poet. He was born in Galicia, Spain, and studied law at the University of Santiago de Compostela. He was a member of the Generation of '98, a group of Spanish writers and intellectuals who sought to revive Spanish literature and culture. Valle-Inclán is best known for his plays, which often featured a mixture of realism and fantasy. His most famous works include the plays Luces de Bohemia (1917) and La marquesa Rosalinda (1919). He also wrote several novels, including Sonata de Primavera (1917) and Tirano Banderas (1926). Valle-Inclán was a major influence on the Spanish avant-garde movement of the 1920s and 1930s. He was also a major influence on the Spanish surrealist movement, and his works often featured elements of the surreal. He died in 1936, shortly after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War.
