Ramón Pérez de Ayala (1880-1962) was a Spanish novelist, essayist, and critic. He was born in Oviedo, Asturias, and studied law at the University of Madrid. He was a prolific writer, publishing over 50 books in his lifetime. He is best known for his novels, which often explore the themes of love, death, and the supernatural. He was also a noted critic, writing extensively on Spanish literature and culture. He was a member of the Generation of '98, a group of Spanish intellectuals who sought to revive Spanish culture after the Spanish-American War. He was also a member of the Royal Spanish Academy. He died in Madrid in 1962.
