Ricardo Palma (1833–1919) was a Peruvian author, historian, and politician. He is best known for his Tradiciones peruanas, a collection of stories and anecdotes about Peruvian history and culture. Palma was born in Lima, Peru, and studied at the National University of San Marcos. He was a professor of literature at the university and served as a member of the Peruvian Congress. He was also a member of the literary group Los Pinos Nuevos, which was dedicated to promoting Peruvian literature. Palma wrote several books, including the novel El último Godoy, and the historical works Historia de la República del Perú and Historia de la literatura peruana. He is considered one of the most important figures in Peruvian literature.
