Richard Barnfield (1574-1627) was an English poet and contemporary of William Shakespeare. He was born in Shropshire, England, and was educated at Oxford University. He was a friend of the Earl of Southampton, and his poetry was highly praised by Ben Jonson. His works include The Affectionate Shepherd (1594), Cynthia (1595), and The Encomion of Lady Pecunia (1598). He was also a playwright, writing The Jealous Lovers (1602) and The Shepherd's Holiday (1605). Barnfield was a major influence on the English Renaissance, and his works are still studied today.
