Richard Brinsley Sheridan (1751–1816) was an Irish playwright, poet, and politician. He is best known for his plays "The Rivals" (1775) and "The School for Scandal" (1777), which are considered masterpieces of English comedy. Sheridan was also a long-serving Member of Parliament and held various political positions, including Treasurer of the Navy. His works are noted for their wit, satire, and social commentary.
