Richard Hildreth

Richard Hildreth (1789–1865) was an American historian and author. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and graduated from Harvard College in 1809. He was a lawyer and a journalist, and wrote several books on American history, including The History of the United States of America (1830–1844), The History of Banking in the United States (1834), and The History of Slavery in the United States (1836). He was also a strong advocate of abolitionism and a supporter of the Union during the American Civil War. He died in 1865 in New York City.
