Richard Maples (1917-1996) was an American author and journalist. He was born in New York City and attended Columbia University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and afterwards worked as a journalist for the New York Herald Tribune. He wrote several novels, including The Scapegoat (1956), The Man Who Couldn't Lose (1958), and The Man Who Wasn't There (1960). He also wrote several non-fiction books, including The American Way of Life (1962) and The American Dream (1965). Maples was a member of the Authors Guild and the Mystery Writers of America. He died in 1996 in New York City.
