Richard W. Stewart

Richard W. Stewart is a professor of history at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is the author of several books on the history of the American West, including The California Gold Rush and the Coming of the Civil War (2005), The American West Transformed: The Impact of the Gold Rush, the Homestead Act, and the Railroads (2008), and The American West at War: Conflict and Transformation since 1945 (2013). He has also written extensively on the history of the American West in the 19th century, including The American West: A New Interpretive History (2000) and The West in the History of the Nation (2003). He is currently working on a work about the history of the American West in the 20th century.
