The Return of the Druses by Robert Browning
On an islet ruled by the Knights-Hospitallers, Djabal claims to be Hakeem and arranges Venetian ships to carry the oppressed Druses back to Lebanon. Anael kills the Prefect to prove her faith in Djabal, then learns of his deception and urges him to confess. After revealing his fraud to the Nuncio, she dies calling Djabal Hakeem; he appoints Khalil to lead the Druses, asks Loys to protect them, and kills himself as the Venetians arrive.
