Russell Burton (1917-2003) was an American author and educator. He was born in New York City and attended the City College of New York. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a professor of mathematics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for over 30 years. Burton wrote several books on mathematics, including Weak on Square Roots (1953), which was designed to help students understand the fundamentals of square roots. He also wrote several other books on mathematics, including The Mathematics of Algebra (1956), The Mathematics of Geometry (1958), and The Mathematics of Trigonometry (1960). In addition to his work as an author, Burton was also a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Mathematical Association of America. He was also a member of the American Mathematical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
