Samuel Ellsworth Kiser (1890-1962) was an American author and journalist. He was born in North Carolina and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He worked as a reporter for the Charlotte Observer and the Asheville Citizen-Times before becoming a freelance writer. Kiser wrote several books, including The Story of the Blue Ridge Mountains (1925), The Story of the Great Smokies (1927), and The Story of the Appalachians (1929). He also wrote several short stories and articles for magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post and Collier's. Kiser was a member of the North Carolina Writers' Conference and the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association. He was also a member of the Southern Appalachian Writers' Conference. He was awarded the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association's Gold Medal for his contributions to North Carolina literature. Kiser died in 1962 in Asheville, North Carolina.
