Siegfried Sassoon (1886–1967) was an English poet, writer, and soldier. He is best known for his anti-war poetry during World War I, which vividly depicted the horrors of trench warfare. Born into a wealthy family, Sassoon was educated at Marlborough College and Clare College, Cambridge. He enlisted in the British Army in 1914 and served with distinction, earning the Military Cross. His experiences in the war led to his outspoken criticism of its conduct, famously expressed in his "Soldier's Declaration" of 1917. Sassoon's poetry collections include "The Old Huntsman" and "Counter-Attack." After the war, he continued to write, producing memoirs and novels.
