Stephen Leacock (1869-1944) was a Canadian humorist, political scientist, and professor. He was born in England and moved to Canada at the age of nine. He studied at the University of Toronto and McGill University, where he earned his doctorate in political science. Leacock was a prolific writer, publishing over 40 books and hundreds of articles and essays. He is best known for his humorous works, such as Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town (1912) and Arcadian Adventures with the Idle Rich (1914). He also wrote several serious works, including The Unsolved Riddle of Social Justice (1917) and The Unsolved Riddle of Social Justice (1917). Leacock was a popular lecturer and was awarded honorary degrees from several universities. He was also a member of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Authors Association. He died in 1944 at the age of 75.
