Thea von Harbou (1888-1954) was a German author, screenwriter, and film director, best known for her work on the 1927 silent film "Metropolis." Born in Hamburg, Germany, von Harbou began her career as a writer and actress in Berlin's theater scene before transitioning to film. She wrote the screenplay for "Metropolis" in collaboration with her husband, director Fritz Lang. Von Harbou was a pioneering figure in German cinema, and her work on "Metropolis" helped establish the Expressionist movement in film. Her writing explored themes of social inequality, political oppression, and the struggle for individual freedom. In addition to "Metropolis," von Harbou wrote several other screenplays and novels, including "Die Frau, nach der man sich sehnt" (1926) and "Das indische Tuch" (1930). She died in 1954 at the age of 66.
