Thomas E. Wells is a professor of history at the University of South Carolina. He is the author of several books, including The War of 1812: A Forgotten Conflict (University of Illinois Press, 1989), The War of 1812: A Short History (University of Illinois Press, 1995), and The War of 1812: A Guide to Battlefields and Historic Sites (University of Illinois Press, 2000). He has also written numerous articles and book chapters on the War of 1812 and other topics in American history. Wells has served as a consultant for several television documentaries, including the PBS series The War of 1812. He is a member of the Society for Military History and the Society for Historians of the Early American Republic.
