Thomas Hughes (1822–1896) was an English lawyer, judge, politician, and author. He is best known for his novel "Tom Brown's School Days" (1857), which is a semi-autobiographical work set at Rugby School, where Hughes was educated. The novel is notable for its depiction of Victorian school life and its emphasis on moral development. Hughes was also involved in social reform and was a proponent of Christian socialism.
