Thornton W. Burgess was an American conservationist and children's writer. He is best known for his animal stories that were published in a series of books called the "Bedtime Stories" and later as the "Animal Friends" series. Born on January 14, 1874, in Sandwich, Massachusetts, he spent most of his life in New England. Burgess was a prolific writer who wrote over 150 books and numerous articles on conservation and wildlife. He died on June 5, 1965, at the age of 91.
