Tomás Moro (1478-1535) was an English lawyer, author, statesman, and humanist. He is best known for his book Utopia, which was published in 1516. He was also a key figure in the English Reformation, serving as Lord Chancellor of England from 1529 to 1532. He was a staunch defender of the rights of the common people and a critic of the abuses of the Catholic Church. He was executed for treason in 1535 for refusing to accept King Henry VIII's supremacy over the Church of England. His works, including Utopia, remain influential to this day.
