Upton Sinclair (1878–1968) was an American writer, muckraker, and political activist. He is best known for his novel "The Jungle" (1906), which exposed the harsh conditions in the U.S. meatpacking industry and led to public outcry and reforms. Sinclair wrote nearly 100 books across various genres, including fiction, non-fiction, and plays. He was a member of the Socialist Party and ran for political office several times, including a notable campaign for Governor of California in 1934.
