Wilder Anthony (1790-1860) was an American author and poet. He was born in Massachusetts and attended Harvard College. He was a lawyer by profession and served in the Massachusetts legislature. Anthony wrote several books, including When Super-Apes Plot (1824), a satirical novel about a group of apes who plot to take over the world. He also wrote poetry, including The Poetical Works of Wilder Anthony (1830). He was a member of the Anthology Club, a literary society in Boston. Anthony was a strong advocate for the abolition of slavery and was a member of the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society. He was also a supporter of the temperance movement. He died in 1860.
