Wilkinson Dent Bird

Wilkinson Dent Bird (1868-1937) was an American military officer and author. He was born in 1868 in Virginia and graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1889. He served in the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Insurrection, and was a major in the United States Army during World War I. Bird wrote several books on military tactics and strategy, including Some Principles of Frontier Mountain Warfare (1909). He also wrote a work on the history of the United States Cavalry, titled The Cavalry of the United States (1912). He retired from the Army in 1921 and died in 1937.
