Xenophon (c. 430–354 BC) was an ancient Greek historian, soldier, and philosopher. He is known for his writings on the history of Greece, particularly his Anabasis, which recounts his experiences as a mercenary leader in the service of Cyrus the Younger. He also wrote works on the art of horsemanship, hunting, and other topics. Xenophon was a student of Socrates and a friend of Plato. He was a member of the wealthy Athenian class and served in the military during the Peloponnesian War. He was exiled from Athens in 403 BC and spent the rest of his life in Sparta and Corinth.
