Young Ewing Allison is an American author and journalist. He is best known for his books on the history of the American West, including The Tragic Fate of the Donner Party and The Great American West. He has also written extensively on the history of the American Civil War and the Reconstruction era. Allison was born in New York City and grew up in the Midwest. He attended the University of Michigan, where he earned a degree in history. After college, he worked as a journalist for several newspapers, including the Chicago Tribune and the Detroit Free Press. In addition to his books, Allison has written for numerous magazines and newspapers, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal. He has also appeared on television and radio programs, including National Public Radio and the History Channel. Allison currently lives in Michigan with his wife and two children. He is a member of the Society of American Historians and the American Historical Association.
